THE SHIFT KEY

The Shift key increases the number of functions or commands a standard keyboard can access. If you hold down Shift while pressing the number 4, a dollar sign $ will appear; similarly, holding down Shift while pressing the a key will display a capital A.
The Shift key differs from the Caps Lock in that it only affects what you type while it is held down.

THE CONTROL KEY
Like Shift , the Ctrl (Control) key gives other keys a new job while it is held down. For example, you can print your document by holding down Ctrl and pressing p. These jobs are often called functions.

ALTERNATE KEY
The Alt key allows quick access to menus (lists of functions Word can perform). Example, holding down Alt while pressing the letter" f "activates the file pull down menu. Using Alt is a handy alternative to using the mouse.

TAB KEY
Pressing the Tab key moves the cursor across the screen at preset intervals. Tabs are an easy accurate way to align text.

SPACE BAR
The Spacebar inserts a blank space between characters; for instance to separate words and sentences.

ENTER KEY
The Enter key often called the Return key is used to begin a new paragraph. Enter can also be used to confirm a command. Often Word will query whether you want to perform a command, offering options such as "yes" "no" and "ok", pressing Enter generally accepts "yes", instructing Word to continue
